Testing Skincare Basics | Empties
It's been a while since I've done a straight up "Empties" post, but please believe I've been going through skincare like crazy. Last week, I reviewed a few cleansing oils. And today, I have skincare basics - a solid cleanser and a few moisturizers.
Expect to see more skincare reviews in the coming weeks and months. A couple of months ago, I decided that I wouldn't purchase any new skincare until I'd used up what I already have. Honestly, it'll probably be another month or two until I've used up enough to buy something new!To give you guys an idea of how much I have to go through, I have a whole dresser drawer full of skincare products. Lots of these are minis from Sephora and gifts with purchase, but still, it's kinda crazy. So far, I've used up some decent products, but I'm really missing my tried-and-true skincare staples. This cleanser was sorely missed over the summer. And this moisturizer is just perfect in its simplicity.But the good news is that there will be lots of reviews in the coming weeks and months.For me, a good cleanser and moisturizer are definitely skincare basics. They're non-negotiable (although I'd add eye cream and SPF too because I'm obsessive). First up, I have a review of a really solid cleanser - the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser.
I've already discussed this in a previous empties post, so I won't go too in-depth. I will say that this is a great everyday cleanser. It foams up nicely and will get your skin really clean. I haven't experienced any irritation with this cleanser, either. Now that we're approaching the holiday season, you can find travel sized versions in several different First Aid Beauty gift sets. I'm pretty sure that's how I ended up with this size. If you're looking for effective and affordable skincare basics, I definitely recommend that you check out some FAB gift sets. I've really liked all of the products that I've tried.
Next up, I have a review of this deluxe sample of the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet. As the name suggests, this is definitely a light moisturizer. It absorbs quickly into the skin and dries to a fairly matte finish. For my combination skin, though, it wasn't quite hydrating enough. If you have oily skin and need a really light moisturizer, this could be a really good option.
This moisturizer has been mentioned several times - my Glossier Favorites post and my Post-Gym Get Ready With Me Tutorial - so I won't repeat myself. I think this is my favorite basic, all-purpose moisturizer. It's definitely hydrating, but it's not so rich that your makeup will slide around. Since it is a basic moisturizer, it's great for day and night, too. Can't recommend this enough if you're looking for an everyday moisturizer.
Last, I have this Murad Hydro-Dynamic Moisturizer*. This is one of the best rich moisturizers that I've tried. This is more hydrating and a bit heavier than the Glossier moisturizer, so it's not something that I wore much during the summer. But, during the winter and spring, this was my go-to at night. It's very hydrating and just feels so luxurious on the skin. Also, since it's so rich, a little goes a long way. If you have dry skin, this could be perfect for morning and night. If you have normal or combination skin, this might be better just as a night cream. Either way, if you're looking for something super moisturizing and soothing for your skin, definitely check this out.
