Nothing to Wear: Work Edition

When I first started working at a big law firm, I stocked up on suits from Banana Republic and Ann Taylor because that's what I thought lawyers were supposed to wear. I never felt totally comfortable in those clothes, and it eventually meant I had three totally distinct wardrobes: work, casual and going out. Since then, my lifestyle has changed, and so has my approach to what to wear to work. I now look for items that can be put together to look polished at work, but can also be worn separately on the weekends. This means my clothes are way more versatile, and I feel much more like myself at work. Here are some great pieces that can go from 9-5 and beyond.

What to Wear to Work

I love Equipment shirts  because they look just as good with a pencil skirt or slacks at work as with some skinny jeans or leather leggings on the weekend. This J. Crew leather pencil skirt adds some edge to a work wardrobe basic, but with a v-neck tee and some ankle booties, this skirt would be super cute outside of work.I really love these French Connection studded shoes. The heel is low enough to wear all day, but the studs add some interest so they're anything but basic. This Milly handbag is great because with the black and brown you can wear it with pretty much anything.A great watch is a necessity and the simplicity of this Daniel Wellington watch makes it so versatile and classic.Pearl earrings are timeless, and these Rue Gembon earrings have enough edge to wear well after you've clocked out for the day. What are your go-to pieces for work and weekend?
