ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip {You Might Need These}

I finally gave in to the trend and bought some ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks. ColourPop came out with the Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks a couple of months ago and they sold out immediately.  I wasn't going to jump on the bandwagon because I wasn't sure if I was into the super matte lip look.  But then I kept seeing swatches and YouTube videos (this one from ItsMyRayeRaye probably pushed me over the top), so when the brand re-stocked, I picked up a few of the more wearable shades.  I haven't been disappointed yet with ColourPop, and these are only $6 each (plus $5 off with the code "THANKSBABE"), so I decided to give them a go.

First off, they are very opaque and go on pretty smoothly.  I was able to get full coverage with just one coat, which is good since I'd read reviews stating that a second coat does not apply smoothly.  After the initial application, it takes about a minute for them to fully dry, and then they stay put for quite a while.

As you'd expect from something called "Ultra Matte" these can be drying.  I like to put on a hydrating lip balm a few minutes before application to add some moisture to my lips.  These are also really great underneath a lipgloss.  I realize this defeats the purpose of the matte lip look, but it's nice that the Ultra Mattes work well with other lip products.

Here are some swatches:

Initially I was most excited about Limbo and Kapow.  You guys know I've been super into the grunge makeup look lately (check out my recent YouTube videos as proof: Glow & Grunge Makeup Tutorial and Summer Grunge Makeup Tutorial) and these did not disappoint.  Limbo is a very pretty and rich brown.  It's like a slightly more red version of Photo by MAC.  Kapow is a very gray lavender color that will look different on every person.  It reminds me of Stone by MAC but more mauve.  This is a very muted and grungy look that I'm a little uncomfortable wearing to be honest.  However, layered under any berry or purple gloss, it's gorgeous.

The most versatile of this bunch is definitely Bumble.  it's a very pretty red/coral color that is perfect for everyday.  This would be great to wear to work because it's so long-lasting and would look good no matter what else you're wearing.  On me, Trap is a very pale lavender/pink.  Nothing special but I could probably make it work with a brown/nude liner like Cork by MAC.  Tulle is a very nice berry red that would be great for fall.

Bottom Line: I really like these and I think they're a great way to try out the matte liquid lipstick trend without breaking the bank.
