October 2015 Favorites
Better late than never! Here's a roundup of the skincare and beauty products that I used and loved in October.
1. MAC Prep + Prime Lip. I mentioned this in my haul video (check it out here) and this is definitely going to be a staple in my makeup bag. With liquid lipsticks becoming insanely popular, I need something that will condition my lips but not interfere with the lipstick at all. This product does just that, plus it helps to prolong the wear of my lipstick. Must have.
2. MAC CC Color Correcting Setting Powder in Neutralize. I've been using this product to set my foundation and concealer lately and have been very happy. It manages to keep my nose from looking too shiny, but it does not leave my face looking all caked up. I wear this in Neutralize which appears slightly yellow toned and is meant to neutralize any redness in your skin. It does not apply yellow at all, though. This also comes with other tints to combat other complexion issues. I highly recommend this powder.
3. Algenist Sublime Defense SPF 50. Again, this is something that I mentioned in my last YouTube video (check it out here) and I am very happy with this. I love that it blends into my skin completely and that it dries down to a very natural finish - not shiny and not flat. This is very lightweight too, so your skin won't feel heavy after you apply it, either. Best sunscreen that I've used thus far.
4. ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip in Clueless. This color is the perfect light pink. Sometimes I'm nervous about wearing light pink lipsticks because against darker skin they can look a bit harsh. This color is perfect, and I think it would be beautiful on so many different skin tones. Definitely worth the $6 price tag!
5. Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum. This teeny tiny sample really packs a punch. I actually loved how this serum felt on my face and liked that it added moisture with no greasiness. It did not feel heavy on my face either. The one drawback is that it is highly fragranced which could be annoying to some. Plus, I try to avoid fragrances in my skincare because they are known skin irritants. I won't be purchasing a full size version, but if you're a fan of Chanel skincare and/or you're looking for an effective moisturizing serum, this is definitely worth a try.
6. Sunday Riley Good Genes. This treatment is meant to "plump fine lines, reveal brighter, newer skin, and improve circulation for a smooth, vibrant complexion." It's active ingredients include: lactic acid (plumps lines, exfoliates and refines skin, decreases wrinkle depth over time), lemongrass (boosts circulation, which brings oxygen to the skin, increases vibrance and radiance), licorice (natural skin brightener; anti-inflammatory), arnica (boosts circulation, skin soothing), and yeast (helps heal the skin, create stronger, healthier tissue). So far, I am really happy with how soft and glowy this makes my skin. I will say that the lactic acid does sting my face a little, so I usually just use this every other night. I hope to work up to using it nightly (and eventually morning and night). I'm very happy with this and can't wait to try other items from Sunday Riley.
7. MAC Prep + Prime Blemish Control Gel. The bad news is that I've been dealing with hormonal acne, but the good news is that this works to get rid of breakouts quickly. Plus, this doesn't irritate my skin.
8. By Terry Terry-bly Lengthening Mascara. I got a sample of this about a month ago at the Barneys Beauty Event (details in my post here) and I'm very impressed with this. I love that it lengthens and separates my lashes, making it perfect for everyday. But the bonus is the lash boosting ingredient that actually helps to grow my lashes. I was super skeptical about this claim, but it actually does work. This mascara is pricey ($48!), but if you consider the lash boosting serum, then the price (sort of) makes sense. Not sure if I'll be purchasing a full size right away, but I'm definitely going to use the sample down to the last drop!
