Empties - Vol. 7 {Skincare Reviews}
It's been forever since my last empties post (the last one was in November!), so I figured it's about time to discuss what skincare products I've used and loved (or not) in the last few months.
Cleansers
First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser. I've gone back to this cleanser several times over the years. It foams and doesn't irritate my skin, so I used to use it with my Clarisonic (which I haven't been using much at all lately). It also removes all makeup from my face pretty easily. My only issue is that it is fairly drying on my skin, so I may not repurchase this right away.
Side note: First Aid Beauty is an overall really good brand. Their products are quality and do what they claim to do (I love their Oatmeal mask). If you're curious about FAB, I suggest picking up one of the kits they sell at Sephora. I'll include my picks in the widget below.
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser. This is another tried-and-true cleanser that just works. It cleans everything off my face and isn't irritating. My only issue, and it's something that tends to happen with foaming cleansers, is that this is kind of drying on my skin. Maybe it'll work better for me during the summer, but for now, I won't be repurchasing this right away.
Glam Glow Thirsty Cleanse. I tried a travel size of this cleanser and I really like it. It's a thick clay-like cleanser that smooths nicely over the skin with a bit of water. It doesn't really foam, but it emulsifies as you wash your face and it does a great job of cleaning my face. It's touted as a moisturizing cleanser, and while I wouldn't go that far, it's not nearly as drying as the other cleansers featured here. I'm not in a rush to re-purchase it, but I may in the future.
Julep Bare Face Cleansing Oil. I bought this in a set that came with the Konjac Cleansing Sponge and really like how the two work together. The sponge helps to really cleanse and exfoliate the skin while the cleansing oil still feels gentle and moisturizing on my face. This cleansing oil lasts forever and I really like it, but this is another one that I probably won't repurchase. I'm currently using the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil and that's bae, but if you're curious about the Julep skincare products, I'd still recommend this cleansing oil because it's light but still effective.
Lush Tea Tree Water. This is one of my holy grail products, and I explain why in my post on How to Treat and Prevent Acne. I've already repurchased this and am using it in my current skincare routine.
Eye Cream
YSL Forever Youth Liberator Eye Cream. I got a mini size in some gift with purchase, so happily tried this out. It's lightly moisturizing but otherwise it didn't seem special to me. Like all YSL skincare products, it's heavily scented. I don't mind the scent, but if you have a sensitive nose, you'll probably want to check this out in person before purchasing.
Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Cream SPF 15. I really like this eye cream and love that it has SPF. It was hydrating and light, which is exactly what you want in a daytime eye cream. I have a more detailed review in my post about my Fall Daytime Skincare Routine.
Moisturizer
Ole Henriksen Truth Creme Advanced Hydration. This was part of the same Ole Henriksen set that had the eye cream, and this is a really nice moisturizer and something that I'd repurchase because it's light but still hydrating. I have a more detailed review in this post.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum. I really like this serum. It's very moisturizing but soaks right in immediately. It doesn't leave a sheen on the skin at all, so if you have oily skin, but want a light moisturizer, I would definitely recommend it. I'm not sure if I'd use this over my Kate Somerville Quench Oil-Free Serum, but I really like it and was happy with the deluxe sample size that I got.
Jouer Daily Repair Treatment Oil. You may remember this from my fall skincare routine post and this is a decent facial oil. I love trying new facial oils, and was excited to test this out when I received it in the Jouer Le Matchbox Subscription box. However, I didn't notice much of a difference in my skin while I was using it. I'll probably stick to the two facial oils that are in rotation now.
Makeup
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Dark Brown. Y'all know this is one of my favorites and one of my staples for keeping up my brows. I've already repurchased and will probably continue to do so.
Buxom Full & Fabulous Mascara. I got this as a 100 point gift at Sephora and it's a decent mascara. I think it's a similar idea to the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, but not as good and more expensive, so I probably won't be repurchasing this.
