(Somewhat) Edgy Work Makeup | Week In Makeup

Alright, so I'm all for being professional and sophisticated and appropriate at work. I personally want the quality of my work and the brilliance that I bring to my job to be what people notice most, not my glittery eyeshadow. BUT...I do love me some glitter eyeshadow! I mean....glitter eyeshadow. I'll just let you think about that for a minute. So, what's a makeup lover stuck in corporate America to do? This week I tried to push the envelop with a metallic liquid lipstick. Not gonna lie, I kind of felt like a bad ass! That being said, I highly doubt that any of my co-workers noticed because the rest of my makeup (and my hair and outfit) was pretty low-key.edgy work makeupI mentioned buying this metallic matte lipstick from Kylie Cosmetics a couple of weeks ago, but I really hadn't worn this much.  It just seemed too metallic and too edgy for me.  Every time I put it on, I felt like I had foil covering my lips!  But I finally figured out how to make this metallic gold liquid lipstick work - I added nude liner! Earlier this year, I had a guest post over on makeupandbeautyblog.com and I mentioned Chocolate liner by NYX Cosmetics.  This is the perfect nude liner for my skin tone, and the fact that it's just a few dollars is a bonus. So, to make this super metallic King K liquid lipstick more wearable, I lined my lips and then filled them in completely with Chocolate lip liner.  That little trick helped King K blend into my lips better.  The nude liner trick works wonders for any super bold liquid lipstick.  Sometimes liquid lipsticks are so intense, so adding a nude liner can tone them down just a bit and make them more wearable.edgy work makeup

my tips for edgy work makeup

  1. Keep it simple.  The best way to pull off edgy work makeup is to keep the rest of your makeup really simple.  In this makeup look, I'm wearing a little Ambering Rose blush (from this custom MAC palette), Weenie by Colourpop and a little mascara.  That's it.
  2. Wear complementary tones.  Since King K is such a rich gold, I wanted to stay in the same color family.  Ambering Rose is a sparkly terra-cotta shade and Weenie is a super pretty golden bronze eyeshadow (with a little glitter!).
  3. Pick something you LOVE.  It's pretty hard to feel like a #girlboss if you're feeling weird about your lipstick or eyeliner.  So, you gotta wear something that makes you feel good!  Edgy work makeup is all about putting something on that amps up your confidence and makes you sit up a bit straighter in your desk.  It makes you hold your head a little higher.  It puts a little pep in your step.  For me, it's this metallic lipstick.  For you, it might be bold eyeliner or colored mascara.  Do you!
