Cold Brewed Iced Coffee
I love coffee, and I get a special surge of happiness when I order my first iced coffee of summer. I'd tried to replicate this on my own, but it always came out bitter or too weak, until I discovered the amazingness of cold brewed iced coffee. Totally life-changing. Here's how it's done ...
- Add coarsely ground coffee to a large pitcher and add water to pitcher using a 1:4 ratio of coffee to water.
2. Cover pitcher and store in refrigerator for 12 to 14 hours.3. Line a fine mesh strainer with either a coffee filter or paper towel and place over another large pitcher.4. Slowly pour coffee/water mixture through mesh strainer, stopping just before you get to the bottom. This can take up to 15 minutes or so depending on how much liquid you have. You will probably have to replace the filter/paper towel.5. The resulting liquid will be strong, which is a good thing, because once you add the ice/milk/sweetener (you may even want to dilute further with water), your result will be the perfect iced coffee. The concentrate will last in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or you can freeze it in ice cube trays to make it last even longer.Enjoy!P.S. I love to make a smoothie of iced coffee, 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder and soy or almond milk before morning workouts.
