BeautyCon LA | Week In Makeup

makeup-beautycon-3.jpg

I'm sitting here watching the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and even though I normally don't post on Sunday evenings, I wanted to give a little recap of BeautyCon LA.  I went last weekend and while it wasn't exactly what I expected, I had a good time.

heading to beautyCon la

So, in case you're not familiar with BeautyCon, it was a huge festival that brought together beauty brands, influencers and fans.  There were some really cool tutorials and panels, plus about 80 makeup brands.  First off, I was totally overwhelmed when I showed up because it was insane.  There were literally thousands of people there and I just didn't plan well enough in advance to strategize which panels and brands that I wanted to check out. But, I was able to see a highlight and contouring demo by Makeup Shayla and ilovesarahii and it was really good.  Kinda made me want to buy Shayla's contouring palette that she collaborated with Tarte to make.I also listened to a really interesting panel with one of my favorite YouTubers - Hey Claire - about diversity and representation in the beauty industry.  I think the panels were awesome and I probably should have just staked out a good seat and listened to panels the whole time...but at least now I know for next time.Despite the super long lines at every single booth, I still bought some really good stuff.  I mean, y'all know me well enough to know that there's now way I'm going to a makeup convention and leaving empty handing.  Not a chance.

what I bought at beautycon LA...

what I bought at beautyconI was really excited to stop at the Pixi Beauty booth.  I've already talked about the Pixi Glow Mist and the Glow Tonic but I haven't had the chance to try other products from the brand.  I always hear good things but everytime I go to my local Target, the Pixi shelves are bare as hell.  So, I bought some of the travel sizes of the Pixi Makeup Setting Mist and the Pixi Hydrating Setting Mist. I also got the MultiBalm in Wild Rose which goes on the lips and cheeks.  It's a super pretty dusty rose color.  The last thing I got from Pixi was the Endless Brow Gel Pen (which was free gift for taking a pic and posting it to Instagram):[xyz-ihs snippet="pixi-IG"]I also got the chance to check out the PUR booth.  I LOVE the PUR Hydra Fluid Water Foundation so I wanted see what else PUR had to offer.  I bought the Eye Polish in Silk and Velvet and can't wait to try them.  You guys already know I'm obsessed with cream eyeshadows and I've heard that these Eye Polishes are super shiny and long-lasting.  I'll def try them and report back.  And then, I got the lipgloss for free for following PUR on Instagram. And my last stop was the Lashes by Lena booth.  People rave about their lashes, but when I saw they had tons of liquid lipsticks, I went for those instead.  Let's be honest, I'll never be that girl that wears false lashes on the daily.  I got two shades of the More Matte Than Matte liquid lipstick in Claudia (super pretty peachy terra-cotta shade) and Orlando (rich chocolate brown).  The colors are incredible and they are super matte.

what I packed for beautycon...

Since BeautyCon was in LA, I took a super quick (and cheap and annoying) flight from Oakland to LA.  I had to consolidate everything into one backpack (don't ask...just blame Spirit), so I had to be strategic.  Looking back, I gotta say it wasn't my best packing job, but whatever, it got the job done.what I packed for BeautyConI packed an old favorite Lancome Miracle Cushion Compact (featured in this post) and I finally broke open my Too Faced Peanut Butter And Jelly Eyeshadow Palette.  I bought this months ago but I was saving it for a special occasion (yes, I realize how crazy this sounds).  I LOVE the colors and you can get a ton of good looks out of this palette.  For eyes, I also brought MAC's Paint Pot in Groundwork and Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Rouge-Gorge.packing for BeautyConI also packed Zoeva Blush in Burning Up (one of my favorite everyday blushes), ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Dohee (as seen in this video), Benefit Goof Proof Brows and Kat Von D Lolita liquid lipstick.packing for BeautyConI also threw in a tiny sample size of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, Charlotte Tilbury Miracle Eye Wand (I just talked about this in my June Favorites), my must-have Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, MAC Studio Conceal and Correct and a tiny sample Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer (didn't even use this one smh).  But, I did get to use the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Illuminator*, which is soo pretty.  I leaves a really pretty sheen.  No color, no shimmer, just a super natural glow. And finally....I wanted to give you guys a little re-cap of my time guest posting over at MakeupAndBeautyBlog.com.  Actually, in case you missed it, I have some of my favorite posts:

best of my guest posts at MBB...

1. Loved everything in the new Benefit Brow Collection.2. These Becca blushes are amazing.3. This Murad lip balm is perfect for layering under liquid lipsticks.4. Lancome's Juicy Shakers are seriously too cute for words! Worth buying just because they'll make you smile every time you see them :-).5. If you want a cream highlighter that doesn't get oily or too "dewy," you kinda NEED one of the PUR Strobe/Highlight Palettes.  Just sayin'.Also, in case you were wondering about how my "No Buy" for June worked, well it worked! I broke down towards the end of the month to buy the ColourPop Cosmetics Ultra Metallic Lips because I'm OBSESSED with metallic lipsticks! I have a little lip swatch video that just went up on my YouTube channel so you can see how they look.  They're so pretty and they're only $6 so it's a pretty cheap way to try out something different.  But otherwise, I exercised some serious will power (*pats self on back*).I'm actually going to try to continue the spirit of this No Buy for this month too. I'll still replace things as I use them, but I'm def going to try to be more thoughtful about my purchases. I mean, let's be honest, I have more makeup than I'll ever use.Alright, this post has been a bit of a ramble, but I feel like we're all friends here, right?  Anyways, hope everyone had a good weekend.[xyz-ihs snippet="beautycon"]* Denotes a product that I received for free from Influenster for review consideration.
