Week In Makeup | Packing For A Long Weekend

a little look at how I pack for a long weekend...

packing for a long weekendAlright, Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial start to summer is here!  Since I just spent a few days in New York, I thought I'd share how I went about packing for a long weekend in case anyone is going somewhere fun this weekend.  I'll just be catching up on sleep and doing some little projects at home (basically, being old AF).And..let's be honest, I'll probably do a little online shopping too.  I love this time of year because EVERYTHING IS ON SALE.  Seriously, J.Crew, Saks, Barneys, Nordstrom...it's a bit overwhelming (in the very best way possible).Ok, back to packing for a long weekend...Even though I have plenty of large makeup bags, I like to bring two smaller bags.  One for skincare and one for makeup.  Lots of times, the lighting in hotel bathrooms is pretty bad, so having my makeup in a separate bag makes it easier to get my things and do my makeup by a window.  Plus, I just love makeup bags, so this strategy lets me get more use out of my collection.[row padding_top="" padding_bottom="" bg="" bg_light="true" appear="false"] [column size="1-2" appear="false"]packing-long-weekend-mubag[/column] [column size="1-2" appear="false"]packing-long-weekend-mubag2[/column] [/row]Love this cute little makeup bag!  It has two zippered compartments, so I added my contacts, toothpaste, etc. into one side and my skincare stuff into the other side. When packing for a long weekend, I try to use sample sizes wherever possible.  It's a good way to try new things, and it helps me stay within the stingy carryon limits.packing for a long weekendFor skincare, I kept it pretty simple and packed mostly tried-and-true items:

what I throw in my makeup bag when i'm packing for a long weekend...

packing for a long weekendI got this makeup bag last year at a Barneys makeup event, and it's one of my favorites.packing for a long weekendI have to pat myself on the back for this packing job.  Usually, even when I'm just packing for a long weekend, I pack tons of stuff. But this time, I think I did a pretty good job.  I bought some old favorites and some brand new things too.packing for a long weekendI decided to bring this NARS tinted moisturizer because it's so long lasting and I don't need a brush to apply it.  Of course I had to bring this Glossier stretch concealer (reviewed in this post) and then I brought this teeny tiny Make Up For Ever loose setting powder.packing for a long weekendHad to pack my Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara!  Probably the best mascara that I've ever tried.  And then for brows, I brought the ColourPop brow pencil and Glossier boy brow.packing for a long weekendFor blush, I packed this Tarte blush palette.  It. Is. So. Good.  I've never tried Tarte blushes, but I've heard lots of good things.  I was not disappointed.  These blushes are so pigmented and blend very easily.  And for highlighter, I had to pack Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in So Hollywood.  One of my favorite highlighters at the moment (see more of my favorites from ABH in this post).packing for a long weekendFor eyes, I went a *little* bit overboard, but I LOVE everything here, so I just had to pack this stuff.  First, I don't know why it took me so long to try this Tartlette In Bloom palette!  The colors are so beautiful and it's super versatile.  It has colors for easy daytime looks, or more dramatic nighttime looks.  I will have a review later with more details, but for now, I'll just say it's EVERYTHING.I also packed one of my favorite Chanel eyeshadow sticks and this super pretty Giorgio Armani eye tint (more details in this post).   Last, because I'm obsessed with these MAC eyeshadows that I reviewed over on makeupandbeautyblog.com, I packed a couple.  They are so pretty!packing for a long weekendWhen I'm packing for a trip, I tend to throw in tons of different lipsticks.  I feel like they can change up my look the most, so I get the most bang for my buck so to speak.  I packed the Anastasia Beverly Hills lipgloss that I wore in my last favorites video, plus an old favorite Chanel lipgloss, the Kylie metallic lipstick that I just bought, plus some favorites from Colourpop.  Then I threw in a new lipgloss from Tarte and the DHC lip cream that I got a while ago.packing for a long weekendHere are the brushes I packed.  I have a video all about makeup brushes, but I will be updating this soon![row padding_top="" padding_bottom="" bg="" bg_light="true" appear="false"] [column size="1-2" appear="false"]There were only a few items that I now realize that I could have left behind.  But, hey, you live and you learn, right?  I poured a little of the Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray into a travel bottle.  I really like this setting spray, so I guess I can't say I regret packing it.  However, this mini MAC Strobe Cream and Benefit eyeshadow primer got no love on this trip.
