Loving Lately - ColourPop Lippie Stix
ColorPop popped onto my radar about a month or two ago, and I've been pretty obsessed since. This cosmetics line sells eyeshadow, blush, lipstick, lip liner and highlighter in super saturated shades and really low prices. The lippie stix are only $5 each! So, after seeing the buzz all over Instagram, I did what any makeup addict would do - I placed a modest order (which was soon followed by a totally immodest order). Here's a roundup of the lipsticks that I bought and my thoughts on the brand. From left to right:
- Easy - Described as a "pale vivid yellow pink in a glossy finish," Easy is quite pale and at first I didn't really think I could pull this off because I thought it made too much of a contrast with my skin. However, if I apply it straight from the tube and then pat my lips, the color is muted just enough to be a wearable pastel pink. I think of this as a warmer, more wearable version of MAC Snob.
- BFF - This is a "warm peachy nude in a glossy finish." I was worried about the lightness of this shade, but, like Easy, it turned out to be more wearable than I'd anticipated. The thing that I like most about the gloss finish is that the colors are still very opaque. My lips are pretty pigmented, and there was almost full coverage with one pass. I really like this shade for a light, peachy nude look.
- Lumiere - This is a " dusty mauve pink in a matte finish" that is probably the most wearable shade of the bunch. It's very much a "my lips but better" color for me and the matte formula is super creamy and not drying at all.
- Brills - I really, really love this "cool toned lavender in a satin finish." I have been obsessed with lavender toned makeup lately, but find that it is hard for me to wear because it is so cool. This color is really pretty, and the satin finish makes it much more wearable than a matte or gloss because it's somehow less dramatic. This is a perfect statement lip color that's more unexpected than the corals and pinks that you tend to see all over the place. Definitely recommend this one.
- Wifey - I may or may not have bought this because of the name. Either way, I'm glad I did because this "bright lavender pink" is so pretty! It's the perfect bright pink lipstick and the satin finish is great.
- Trixie - This is described as a "bright coral red" and I find that it is more pink than the description implies. It's a very lovely shade that would be very flattering on many different skin tones.
- Chi-Chi - Described as a "bright true orange", this appears nearly identical to Clique, which was pretty disappointing to me. I actually purchased Chi-Chi in my first ColourPop order and thought that it was too orange. I realize this is silly because that's exactly how it's described. Anyways, this prompted me to purchase Clique in my next order because I hoped that it would lean more red. But I was wrong because they look exactly the same.
- Clique - This is a "vivid true orange red" that really looks totally orange. A pretty color but not exactly as described.
Despite my disappointment with Clique being identical to Chi-Chi, I am really impressed with the quality of these lipsticks. They are opaque and comfortable on the lips. I also really like the thin, slanted shape of the lipsticks because it makes it easier to apply a precise line around the lips. If you're looking to try out a new brand that offers great quality at awesome prices, definitely look into ColourPop.
