Glossier Lidstar | Review + Looks
Now that some of the hype surrounding Glossier's announcement of Lidstar has died down (does #gloscars ring a bell?), I thought it was a good time for me to post my thoughts. When I first heard about Lidstar, I was super excited. I love shimmery, cream eyeshadows because they're so quick and easy. Plus they're touted as being long-wearing and non-creasing, so it was a no-brainer that I'd snatch these up. Then to my great surprise, Glossier gifted me with 4 shades (and then I of course bought the remaining 2), so I have all 6 shades to review.
swatches of glossier lidstar
glossier lidstar in moon
[one_half padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half][one_half_last padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half_last]Glossier Lidstar in Moon is an icy beige/silver that pulls slightly blue on darker skin tones like mine. At first, I thought this would be much too cool for my coloring, but it actually works. It's definitely not my favorite of the bunch, but it gives my eyes a nice brightness.
glossier lidstar in slip
Glossier Lidstar in Slip is a shimmery baby pink that is also pretty cool toned. It's a nice enough color, but I like my colors with more warmth. It's also not very different from Moon once applied on the skin, at least not on my skin tone.
glossier lidstar in lily
[one_half padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half][one_half_last padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half_last]Lily is a shimmery lavender with pink sparkles. Lily turned out to be a surprise favorite. Most lavender / lilac shades come off extremely white on my skin tone. I really appreciate that this reads lavender on my skin. I think the sparkles show up nicely and somehow manage to look more "cool girl" than "twelve year old" (which is harder than you'd think when it comes to glitter).
glossier lidstar in cub
[one_half padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half][one_half_last padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half_last]Cub is a warm pinky/red and it's definitely my favorite Lidstar. I love wearing these "sunset" type of shades on my eyes (evidence here and here) but sometimes the idea of wearing pink or red on the eyes is intimidating. And it can go wrong so quickly! I like that Cub allows you to get a wash of color that's definitely visible but easy and wearable for everyday.
glossier lidstar in herb
[one_half padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half][one_half_last padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half_last]Herb is a beautiful forest green with gold shimmer. This is one of the more opaque shades and I like it more than I'd anticipated. I honestly just don't like green, BUT I can't deny that this eyeshadow looks good.
glossier lidstar in fawn
[one_half padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half][one_half_last padding="5px 5px 5px 5px"][/one_half_last]Fawn is a taupe/eggplant shade with silver sparkle. It's a pretty unique shade because it's got a mix of brown, purple and gray. I imagine this would be very flattering on lots of skin tones and eye colors as a lightened up "smokey eye." It's definitely not a shade I'd typically reach for, but I like it.
final thoughts
Overall, I love that Lidstar is so easy. As someone who doesn't always find time to apply eyeshadow on a daily basis, I have found myself stashing these in my bag to smudge on my eyes once I'm at work. They are quite sheer, though, which is either good or bad depending on your preference. However, that's how Glossier describes them. I found that I was able to layer these fairly easily to get more color payoff. The key is to wait until the first layer totally dries, and then dab on more as desired.Lasting power is pretty good too. They definitely last all day, but I saw minor creasing. However, due to the shape of my eyes / eyelids, I find most shadows will crease where my eyelids fold. Since Lidstar is sheer and shimmery, I think any creasing will be fairly unnoticeable.Overall, if you like shimmery cream eyeshadows, they're worth checking out. My favorites are Cub, Lily and Moss (in that order!). They retail for $18 each but you can get 2 for $30. Of course, if you're thinking of buying, I'd love if you could support me by shopping with this link.
