August Favorites
I cannot believe that August is coming to a close and that yet another summer is winding down. This summer has been full of changes and challenges, but when life got me down, I knew I could always turn to a good lipstick (or eyeliner, or eyeshadow, or...) to get me through it. Here are the beauty products that have been in heavy rotation this month:
1.
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Nude. I read about this on
Lipstick With Some Sunshine and I've used it almost daily since I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I've always liked the look of white eyeliner on the lower waterline, but knew it was way too dramatic to wear everyday. This nude eye pencil totally wakes up my eyes (which was a must this week as I was a little sick), but it's subtle and totally wearable for work. It's an amazing product that I will probably continue to use daily. Check it out.2.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Twinkle Pop Eye Stick in Au Revoir. This is a lovely metallic pewter shade that is truly a day-to-night miracle worker. Since I rarely wear eyeshadow to work, I carry this with me in case I want to add a little glam for after work. It glides on really easily, is extremely pigmented and does not crease. I apply it directly to my eyelids from the tube and blend a little with my ring finger and then I'm done. It's such a gorgeous shade, and I'm thinking about getting a couple of additional shades.3.
Comodynes Makeup Remover Wipes. I went to a makeup seminar at the beginning of this year, and the makeup artist said these were her favorite wipes, so of course I bought them. I've used many other brands, but these are the only ones that do not sting my face or eyes at all and don't leave any residue on my skin. They are super effective and gentle too.4.
MAC sculpting and highlighting powders in Definitive (contour), Lightsweep (highlight) and Soft Focus (highlight). I have experimented with highlighting and contouring with various cream formulas, but could never quite get it right. I found some products too dramatic and others too subtle, but these three powders are awesome.
Definitive is a warm chocolate-brown that I apply with a very light tan to contour my cheekbones.
Lightsweep is a warm light peach with a very subtle shimmer and
Soft Focus is a light yellow with pearl shimmer. These two are great for highlighting on the cheekbones and bridge of my nose. I also love to use them to set my concealer. The best thing about these powders is that they have smooth finishes and not too much shimmer, so they can really be used all over the face.
Definitive is great for darkening the crease or adding smokiness under the lashline. Similarly,
Lightsweep and
Soft Focus are great for highlighting under the brow bone, or just for a really soft eyeshadow. MAC has several other shades available for all skin tones, so check them out if you're looking for some great highlighting and contouring powders.5.
NARS Ita brush. This brush is awesome for contouring. Its flat shape picks up just the right amount of product and fits perfectly into my cheekbones. I'd seen it used it countless YouTube videos, and now that I've gotten it, I can see why it's so popular. So, there you have it, five of the products that got me through August. Now I'm off to pack for a weekend in LA. Hope you have a fabulous Labor Day weekend!
