3 Outfits To Fight The Winter Blues

nyc copy

When it gets to be this time of year, most of us could probably use a bit of a pick-me-up. Although it's been really nice in the Bay, I know the weather has been pretty awful everywhere else. But even with good weather, this time of year can get you down (Valentine's Day, I'm looking at you). Whatever the reason, I’ve found that most of the time, a new outfit can be just the thing to lift the spirits – even in the dead of winter. I've got the bills to prove this LOL.  So, with that in mind, here are three super cute outfits to hold you over until spring arrives.

Pajama Pants with Leather Jacket

Spring 2016 fashion offers something for everyone – even those (like me) who prefer to lounge around in their PJs all day. While it might not be warm enough to step out in pajama pieces just yet, there’s a simple way to wear this trend now, with a few tiny tricks. First, make sure you choose a pajama pant that is made of a luxe fabric, such as silk, for a more polished look. Pair a skinny, ankle-length pair with classic pumps for the office or date night, and a wide-legged pair with suede loafers or flats for running weekend errands or heading to brunch with the girls. Then, add your favorite coat – cropped leather jacket, classic trench, and sophisticated blazer all work – as long as your favorite coat is fairly tailored. As Glamour points out, pajama pants are naturally loose, so there needs to be a mix of casual and sharp components in the look. If your jacket is slouchy, the outfit ends up looking messy rather than chic.

Here are some really cute PJ-inspired pieces that you could definitely incorporate into your everyday looks:

Over-the-Knee Boots with Mini Hemline

Thigh-high boots are one of the must-have trends of the winter season. They're sultry, sexy and chic, and surprisingly versatile. Whether you’re tall, petite, curvy, or somewhere in the middle, over the knee boots are universally flattering and can be worn in tons of ways. To break out of the usual sweater and jeans combination that’s a go-to for those chilly winter months (or all year if you're like me), wear your thigh-high boots with a mini skirt or dress. The peek of leg between boot and hemline will create an unexpected break in material and add depth to your outfit. Go without tights if you're feeling brave or throw on some tights or thin leggings for extra warmth.

If you don’t have these boots yet, now is definitely the time to buy them (and you can probably find them on sale!). To find the perfect pair for your wardrobe, browse Lyst’s collection of boots for inspiration. They have different styles from lots of different designers, so you'll definitely be able to find something that fits your budget and style.

I found these boots from Lyst, but there are soo many more:

A Bright (Orange) Coat

This last idea combines something old and something new for the perfect transition look that will take you right into spring: flared jeans and a pop of orange. 70s-inspired pieces have been really popular lately, especially flared jeans. Flared jeans are really flattering and come in lots of different denim washes, plus you can dress them up or down. The best part of this look is a bright coat like a pop of orange, a color that, as I saw in Elle recently, is a little in your face, but is nonetheless a must-have hue for spring. To make this pairing work for the last legs of winter, top your flared jeans with a neutral sweater or turtleneck and then finish with an orange coat.
