I’m sitting on my couch binge-watching Game of Thrones and writing about summer lipsticks. Life is good. By the time this post goes live, I’ll have already watched the season premiere and will probably be fully obsessed with predicting what’s going to happen next. You guys probably didn’t come hear to nerd out on GOT (but if you’re a fan, let me know in the comments below). You might be reading this post because it’s too hot to wear makeup but you still wanna look cute. Right?
I knew it.
I personally love applying makeup and even if no one notices it but me, I’ll still walk around all day feeling myself. But now that it’s consistently hot af, it’s kinda hard to justify putting on a full face of makeup. So I have a few of my favorite summer lipsticks that I’ve been wearing with a pretty much bare face. They range from neutral glosses to bold matte liquid lipsticks.
First up is Chanel Glossimer in #41. On my lips, it’s natural and super shiny. There are little sparkles throughout (basically glitter for grownups). Chanel lip glosses are super comfortable on the lips and not sticky at all.
Everyone needs a red lipgloss. At least that’s what the lady told me at the NARS boutique. She talked me into buying NARS lipgloss in Eternal Red and I’m not even mad at it. It’s glossy and gives just the right amount of color without being over the top.
It wouldn’t be right to do a post on summer lipsticks without mentioning Colourpop. They started with just liquid lipsticks but now have a full on makeup range (can I say startup goals?). Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip in Cheat Code is a very pigmented bronzey lip gloss. It’s so pretty that I’m wondering why I haven’t worn it more.
This next one is a really nice formula. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres Glossy Lip Stain is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a mix between a lipgloss and a lip stain so it’s great for summer. The glossy part will wear off if you’re eating and drinking, but you’ll still have a nice stain left behind.
You might remember that I mentioned this Sephora Rouge Lip Tint in Orange in my New York Beauty Haul post earlier this year. This formula literally feels like nothing on the lips and it lasts all day. I think wearing a lip stain in a bright color is a cool way to venture into wearing bright lip colors without going too far.
Now this lipstick (Stila Liquid Lipstick in Como) is hella bright and pretty far out of my comfort zone. But I think it’s wearable as long as the rest of the face is left looking clean and bright and not all caked with makeup.
Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in More Better is a bold raspberry shade. Even though it’s in this summer lipsticks post, I actually think it’s good for anytime of the year.
This Sephora Cream Lip Stain in #10 is bright as hell. I mean it’s basically neon, but I had to include it here. This is not for the faint of heart, but it’s a pretty color.
